\textit{L.-M. Ge} and \textit{W. Yuan} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 107, No.~5, 1838--1843 (2010; Zbl 1206.46049); ibid. 107, No.~11, 4840--4844 (2010; Zbl 1206.46050)] introduced Kadison-Singer algebras, which brings connections between self-adjoint and non-self-adjoint theories. In the paper under review, the authors first classify diagonal-trivial maximal non-self-adjoint subalgebras of \(M_2(\mathbb C)\) and \(M_3(\mathbb C)\), respectively. For general matrix algebras, a new class of diagonal-trivial maximal non-self-adjoint subalgebras of \(M_{2n}(\mathbb C)\) and \(M_{2n-1}(\mathbb C)\) are also discussed.
