The author considers the Ricci flow equation for invariant metrics on connected compact Riemannian homogeneous spaces, whose isotropy representation decomposes into two irreducible inequivalent summands. By studying the corresponding dynamical system and distinguishing the cases (with some subcases), in which there exists an intermediate Lie algebra or not, the behavior of the homogeneous Ricci flow on this kind of spaces are described. Also the existence of ancient solutions and relationship of them to the existence and non-existence of invariant Einstein metrics is investigated.
