Herzog, Takayama and Terai showed in [\textit{J. Herzog} et al, Arch. Math. 85, No. 5, 397--408 (2005; Zbl 1112.13003)] that many properties of a monomial ideal pass to its radical and it is the purpose of this paper to extend this result for modules. More precisely, it shows that there exists a ``radical'' functor from the category of positively determined modules to the category of squarefree modules. Applying this functor, the Betti numbers do not increase. It is studied how this functor is connected with the Alexander duality and Auslander-Reiten translate.
