Using Pappus' Theorem iteratively, Richard Schwartz constructed a discrete subgroup of \(\mathrm{PSL}(3, \mathbb R)\) isomorphic to \(\mathrm{SL}(2, \mathbb Z)\). Applying Schwartz's construction to \(\mathrm{PSL}(3,\mathbb C)\), in the article under review, the authors construct a subgroup of \(\mathrm{PSL}(3,\mathbb C)\) conjugate to \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb Z)\) as a block diagonal subgroup. In particular, this subgroup is not conjugate to a subgroup of \(\mathrm{PU}(2,\mathbb C)\) or the group of affine transformations of \(\mathbb C^2\). In addition, introducing a new operation for the box (four points in general position in \(\mathbb{P}^2_{\mathbb{C}}\), see the article for details), the authors geometrically generate \(\mathrm{PSL}(3, \mathbb Z)\) (as a discrete subgroup of \(\mathrm{PSL}(3, \mathbb C)\)).
