The authors investigate the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations on the two-dimensional torus with well-prepared initial data. For this purpose they combine an incompressible and vanishing capillarity limit. The main objective of this paper is to make this limit rigorous. Their proof requires the (local) existence of a smooth solution to a corresponding initial value problem, which is shown in the appendix. The momentum equation contains some special terms. The proof of the singular limit is based on the modulated energy method with a careful choice of the correction terms.
