A graph-like space is defined as a topological space \(X\) containing a set \(E\) of pairwise disjoint copies of the reals, called edges, each of which is open in \(X\) and has exactly two points in its frontier, and such that the subspace \(X \setminus \bigcup E\) is totally disconnected. In this paper the author studies graph-like spaces and in particular graph-like continua. He proves that any graph-like continuum admits a compatible geodesic metric and that it can be approximated by a sequence of finite graphs. It is showed that this approximation can be used to define graph concepts in graph-like spaces. In particular this is done for the concept of effective resistance. Finally, the author introduces the concept of pseudo-edge and proves a pseudo-edge decomposition theorem for a graph-like continuum.
