The article treats the notion of Hermitian Higgs bundles and presents a number of vanishing theorems about holomorphic sections. Hermitian Higgs bundles are Higgs bundles over Hermitian manifolds and endowed with the Chern connection they provide a natural source of holomorphic vector bundles. The author describes a formula for the corresponding mean curvature associated to the so-called Hitchin-Simpson connection and introduces the notion of weak Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics. These are Hermitian Higgs bundle metrics for which the Hitchin-Simpson mean curvature is a multiple of the identity, and hence they provide a generalization of the weak Hermitian-Einstein metrics. Under specific curvature conditions, results about the parallelism of holomorphic sections which are preserved by the Higgs field, the so-called invariant sections, are presented. These vanishing theorems occur using the associated Weitzenböck formula and they extend the already known results of \textit{U. Bruzzo} and \textit{B. G. Otero} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 612, 59--79 (2007; Zbl 1138.14024)] from the Kähler case to the more general Hermitian case. Similar results are described for natural constructions of Hermitian Higgs bundles, e.g., tensor products, etc. Finally, in terms of the eigenvalues of the Hitchin-Simpson mean curvature, the author gives a sufficient condition such that a Hermitian Higgs bundle admits no no-zero invariant sections.
