Conformal dimension and canonical splittings of hyperbolic groups (Q2510444): Difference between revisions

The conformal dimension is a quasisymmetry invariant introduced by \textit{P. Pansu} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Ser. A I, Math. 14, No. 2, 177--212 (1989; Zbl 0722.53028)]. In the paper under review, the author considers a version of conformal dimension introduced by \textit{M. Bourdon} and \textit{H. Pajot}, called ``Ahlfors regular (AR) conformal dimension'' [J. Reine Angew. Math. 558, 85--108 (2003; Zbl 1044.20026)]. The author is interested in the problem of finding conditions under which a distance on a compact set can be quasisymmetrically deformed so that it becomes an AR distance with Hausdorff dimension close to the topological dimension of the space. The main result is a sufficient condition for a compact metric space to have conformal dimension one. The condition is in terms of the existence of a enough local cut points. The criterion is applied then to boundaries of hyperbolic groups, and it shows relationships between conformal dimension and some canonical splittings of the group.
