This paper develops the basics of the geometry of submanifolds in the language of Clifford bundles, in view of the study of four-dimensional ``branes'' with arbitrary metric tensors, isometrically embedded in a pseudo-Euclidean space \({\mathbb R}^{p,q}\) with \(p=2\) and \(q=46\) or 87. The authors also suggest that this formalism is adapted to the generalization to four dimensions of the ``space-theory of matter'' proposed by \textit{W. K. Clifford} [Proc. Cambridge Phys. Soc. 2, 157--158 (1876)].
