Let \(f\in L^p({\mathbb R}^n)\) be a bounded continuous real valued function, \(f^m(x)=(f(x))^m\) be the \(m\)-th power of \(f\). In the paper under review the authors study the problem: when is the linear span of the functions \(\{ f^m(x-2^{-m} j)\mid m\in {\mathbb N}, j\in {\mathbb Z}^d\}\) a dense subset of \( L^p({\mathbb R}^d)\), \(1\leq p<\infty\)? They give some sufficient conditions for \(f\) when this is true. The result extends to all homogeneous groups, Riemannian symmetric spaces of noncompact type and Damek-Ricci spaces.
