Dimension groups form an important category with multiple links to analysis, geometry and number theory. Roughly, such a category consists of the ordered abelian groups with morphisms preserving the order structure. A \textit{representation} of the dimension group \(G\) can be thought of as a countable sequence of positive integer matrices, which define a simplicial approximation of \(G\). The author of the paper under review considers three families of matrices: ECS (equal column sum), ERS (equal row sum) and ECRS (mixture of the two). The main results of the paper are various criteria of realization of \(G\) by the ECS, ERS or ECRS matrices. The paper is well motivated, clearly written and is supplied with helpful examples. It is an original research masterly performed by one of the founders of the field. A draft of the paper (under different title) is available at \texttt{http://arxiv.org/abs/1301.2799}.
