The authors settle the Rosenberg conjecture for elementary amenable groups. In [\textit{D. Hadwin}, ``Strongly quasidiagonal \(C^*\)-algebras (with an appendix ``quasidiagonality and nuclearity'' by Jonathan Rosenberg)'', J. Oper. Theory 18, No. 1, 3--18 (1987; Zbl 0644.46036)], Rosenberg proved that if the reduced \(C^*\)-algebra of a group is quasidiagonal, then the group is amenable. He suggested that the converse is also true. In this paper, the authors show that this conjecture holds for elementary amenable groups. For an elementary amenable group \(G\), the authors consider the Bernoulli shift of \(G\) on \(\bigotimes_G B\), where \(B\) is the CAR algebra, and consider the corresponding crossed product \(C^*\)-algebra \(B(G):=(\bigotimes_G B )\rtimes G\). This \(C^*\)-algebra is simple, unital, amenable, and satisfies the UCT (universal coefficient theorem). Using a bootstrap argument, the authors show that the \(C^*\)-algebra \(B(G)\) is quasidiagonal. Since the group \(C^*\)-algebra of \(G\) is a sub-\(C^*\)-algebra of \(B(G)\), this in particular proves the Rosenberg conjecture for elementary amenable groups. A main ingredient of the bootstrap argument is the recent classification result on rationalized monotracial amenable (UCT) \(C^*\)-algebras; see [\textit{H. Matui} and \textit{Y. Sato}, Duke Math. J. 163, No. 14, 2687--2708 (2014; Zbl 1317.46041)], [\textit{H.-X. Lin} and \textit{Z. Niu}, Adv. Math. 219, No. 5, 1729--1769 (2008; Zbl 1162.46033)], [\textit{W. Winter}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 692, 193--231 (2014; Zbl 1327.46058)], and [\textit{H.-X. Lin}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 692, 233--243 (2014; Zbl 1327.46056)].
