The classification problem for simple \(C^*\)-algebras is attacked in this paper using new tools, among them an adaptation of the Bott-like maps introduced by \textit{A.\,Kishimoto} and \textit{A.\,Kumjian} [J.~Oper.\ Theory 46, No.\,~1, 99--122 (2002; Zbl 0999.46031)], who studied simple \(A\mathbb T\)-algebras with real rank zero, and several results due to \textit{H.--X.\thinspace Lin} himself, e.g., [``Approximate homotopy of homomorphsims from \(C(X)\) into a single \(C^*\)-algebra'', preprint (2006; arXiv:math/0612125) and ``Asymptotic unitary equivalence and asymptotically inner automorphisms'', preprint (2007; arXiv:math/0703610)]. The authors prove several technical results concerning unital algebras of real rank zero. As a corollary, they are able to prove the following remarkable result: if \(A,B\) are unital separable simple \({\mathcal Z}\)-stable algebras, with unique tracial states, which are inductive limits of type \(I\) \(C^*\)-algebras, then \(A\) and \(B\) are isomorphic if and only if they have isomorphic Elliot invariants.
