The authors introduce the notion of a symplectic Lie pair in order to define a weight system on trivalent diagrams. This work extends that of \textit{L. Rozansky} and \textit{E. Witten} [Sel. Math., New Ser. 3, No. 3, 401--458 (1997; Zbl 0908.53027)], where they defined a weight system on trivalent graphs from a hyper-Kähler manifold. Now, the objective of the article is to replace the input of the hyper-Kähler manifold by a symplectic Lie pair in order to define a weighted system. It was realized by \textit{M. Kapranov} [Compos. Math. 115, No. 1, 71--113 (1999; Zbl 0993.53026)] that the construction of Rozansky and Witten [loc. cit.] depends only on the Atiyah class of a complex manifold. \textit{Z. Chen} et al. [Commun. Math. Phys. 341, No. 1, 309--349 (2016; Zbl 1395.53090)] extended the definition of the Atiyah class of a complex manifold to the Atiyah class of a Lie pair. With this new concept, the authors were able to define a Rozansky-Witten type weighed system. A symplectic Lie pair \((L,A,\omega)\) consists of two Lie algebroids \(L\) and \(A\) over the same base, such that \(A\) is a subalgebriod of \(L\) and \(\omega\) a non-degenerate 2-form \(L/A\) such that \(p^*(\omega)\) is closed with respect to the differential of the Lie algebroid complex of \(L.\) Here \(p:L\to L/A\) is the projection map. For a symplectic Lie pair \((L,A,\omega)\), the main result (Theorem 5.12) claims that there is a weight system on trivalent diagrams that take values on the Lie algebroid cohomology of \(A\). Further the value on each diagram of \(2k\) vertices is defined in terms of the Atiyah class of the Lie pair \((L,A)\) and takes values in \(H^{2k}(A).\) Recall that a weight system with values in \(H^*(A)\) is a linear map from the linear spam of trivalent diagrams to \(H^*(A)\) subject to the AS and IHX realtions.
