The authors study local versions of Herz-type Hardy spaces in the context of variable exponents. Inspired by \textit{D.-S. Fan} and \textit{D.-C. Yang} [Approximation Theory Appl. 13, No. 4, 19--41 (1997; Zbl 0914.42017)] and \textit{H.-B. Wang} and \textit{Z.-G. Liu} [Taiwanese J. Math. 16, No. 4, 1363--1389 (2012; Zbl 1260.42012)], and starting from a local grand maximal characterization, local nontangential and radial maximal characterizations are obtained for these spaces and an atomic decomposition is also proved. As an application of this atomic characterization, the boundedness of some pseudo-differential operators of order zero on the local Herz-type Hardy space with variable exponent is shown.
