The paper is concerned with the nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i h\psi_t =-\frac{h^2}{2}\Delta \psi+\frac{1}{2h^\alpha}W' (| \psi| )\frac{\psi}{| \psi| }+V(x)\psi \] on a bounded domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^N\), \(N\geq 3\), \(\alpha>0\), with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In the case \(V=0\), \(h=1\), \(W\in C^1(\mathbb R)\) bounded, \(W'\) of subcritical growth \(1<p<(N+2)/(N-2)\), the authors obtain a solution of the form \(\psi=u(x)e^{-i\lambda t/2}\) by minimizing \(J(u) =\int_\Omega (\frac{1}{2}| \nabla u|^2+W(u))dx\) on the sphere \(| u|_{L^2}=\sigma>0\). They also show that this solution is orbitally stable. If \(p<(N+4)/N\), \(W(s_0)<0\) for some \(s_0\in\mathbb R\), and \(V\in C^0(\overline{\Omega})\) is non-negative the authors obtain \(L^2\)- and \(H^1\)-localization results for \(h\to 0\).
