The authors improve the conclusion of Christ, Mauceri and Meda who proved that \(\zeta \left( L \right) \leq \frac{Q}{2}\) where \(L\) is a homogeneous sub-Laplacian on a stratified group \(G\) of homogeneous dimension \(Q\). The authors prove the inequalities \(\zeta _{+}\left(L \right) <\frac{Q}{2}\) (in Corollary 16) and \ \(\zeta _{-}\left( \mathit{L}\right) \geq \frac{d}{2}\) (in Corollary 9) for all 2-step groups and sub-Laplacians using elementary estimates for algebraic functions. So they achieve a suitable variation of the method. This paper is accurate and attractive.
