This paper deals with the following Hammerstein integral equation \[ x(t)-\int\limits_{-1}^{1} k(t,s)\psi(s,x(s))ds=f(t), \quad -1\leq t\leq 1, \tag{1} \] with respect to the unknown function \(x\) in a Banach space \(\mathbb{X}=C[-1,1]\). The Galerkin and collocation methods based on global polynomial basis functions are applied to solve Equation (1). The convergence of such approximate solutions is discussed and the rates of convergence are obtained. The superconvergence rate \(\mathcal{O}(n^{-2r})\) for the iterated Legendre Galerkin approximation is also obtained. Several illustrative numerical examples are presented in conclusion.
