Let \(f:M\to M\) be a self map of a smooth compact connected manifold of dimension at least \(3\). We consider the minimal number of \(n\)-periodic points in the homotopy class of \(f\): \(\min\left\{\#\text{Fix}(g^{n})\mid g\sim f \right\}\). In turns out that this number depends on whether we consider all continuous, or only all smooth, maps \(g\) homotopic to the given \(f\). There are two algebraic invariants \(NF_n(f)=\min\left\{\#\text{Fix}(g^{n})\mid g\sim f; g \text{ continuous}\right\}\) and \(NJD_n(f)=\min\left\{\#\text{Fix}(g^{n})\mid g\sim f; g \text{ smooth}\right\}\). In this paper the author gives some conditions which guarantee the equality \(NF_n(f)=NJD_n(f)\) when \(\pi_1(M)=\mathbb{Z}_2\).
