The compressible Navier-Stokes system is studied in the case when the initial density has a jump discontinuity across a closed curve in the two-dimensional bounded domain. The authors prove the global existence, and establish the large time behavior of piecewise strong solution, including the fact that the jump of the fluid density across the convecting curve decays exponentially in time.
