The Euler-Poisson stationary equations are studied, related with polytropic gaseous stars structure, in a specific range of the adiabatic exponent. A particular spherical polar coordinate system is used. The variational formulation of the problem is obtained. The existence of the Fréchet derivative \(DG\) of the corresponding integral operator is proved, which is compact, due to the Ascoli theorem. Moreover, \((1-DG)\) has a bounded linear inverse. The main result is based on an analysis of the Lane-Emden equation. An iteration technique is used, based on a contraction operator related with \((1-DG)^{-1}\). On this way, a rigorous justification is given for some well-known previous results in this field -- see [\textit{S. Chandrasekhar}, Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc. 93, 390--405 (1933; Zbl 0007.03901)].
