Let \((\varphi,\xi,\eta,g)\) be an almost contact metric structure on a manifold \(X\), where \(\xi\) is a vector field, \(\eta\) is a 1-form, \(g\) is a compatible Riemannian metric, and \(\varphi\) is an endomorphism on \(X\). In this paper, the author introduces some new connections on \(X\). First, the intrinsic connection \(\nabla\) is defined, and then for an endomorphism \(N\) on \(X\), the author defines an \(N\)-extended connection \(\nabla^N\) whose torsion tensor \(T^N\) coincides with the torsion \(T\) of \(\nabla\). The connection \(\nabla^N\) is called metric if \(\nabla\) is a symmetric metric connection and \(\nabla^N_\xi g(X,Y)=\xi g(X,Y)-g(NX,Y)-g(X,NY)=0\). If \(\nabla^N=\nabla^B+\eta\otimes N\), where \(\nabla^B\) is the Bejancu connection, then \(\nabla^N\) is called \(N\)-connection. The author proves that if \(X\) is a manifold with a contact metric structure, the condition \(N=0\) is necessary for the vanishing curvature tensor of the \(N\)-extended connection. Also, it is shown that \(X\) admits a \(N\)-extended connection metric connection uniquely defined by the following conditions: (i)\,\(\nabla^N_Z(X,Y)=0\), (ii)\,\(T^N=0\), and (iii)\, \(N\) is a symmetric operator such that \(g(NX,Y)=\mathcal{L}_\xi g(X,Y)\). Finally, the author shows that Tanaka-Webster and Schouten-van Kampen connections are special cases of \(N\)-connection, and new classes of \(N\)-connections, namely, the Vagner connection and canonical metric \(N\)-connection are defined. The last connection defined in this paper is an \(N\)-extended symplectic connection, and the author proves that the \(N\)-extended symplectic connection exists on any manifold with a contact metric structure.
