This paper studies general linear differential-algebraic initial value problems equations of the form \[ M_0 u'(t)+M_1 u(t),\quad t>0,\quad u(0+)=u_0 \] where \(M_0,M_1\) are bounded linear operators in a Hilbert space \(H\). It is assumed that the operator pencil \(z\rightarrow zM_0+M_1\) is regular of index \(0\) in the sense that, for some \(\nu\), \((zM_0+M_1)^{-1}\) exists and is bounded for \(Re(z)>\nu\). The authors first characterize the subspace of initial conditions \(u_0\) for which a classical (continuously differentiable) solution of the initial value problem exists. It is then proved that a mild solution exists for all initial conditions. Asymptotic properties (as \(t\rightarrow \infty\)) of both types of solutions are studied, including characterization of exponential stability and exponential dichotomy in terms of the spectrum of the operator pencil.
