The paper presents an extension to the dissipative case of some results on the De Giorgi conjecture obtained by the authors in a recent paper [Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 43, No. 4, 677--698 (2018; Zbl 1421.35199)]. Actually, the central idea of the De Giorgi approach is to find solutions to Cauchy problems as limits of the minimizers of a special sequence of functionals. A proof can be found in the article [\textit{E. Serra} and the second author, Ann. Math. (2) 175, No. 3, 1551--1574 (2012; Zbl 1251.49019)]. A generalization is presented in a next paper of the same authors [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 18, No. 9, 2019--2044 (2016; Zbl 1355.35125)]. The discussion in the present work strongly involves the results obtained in these two papers. The outcomes of these articles are extended and adopted to dissipative hyperbolic equations. Some examples of dissipative nonhomogeneous equations covered by the obtained results are presented in the last section of the work.
