The paper is concerned with the construction of a new family of level-dependent wavelet filters. The wavelets and their corresponding filters are dependent not only on the levels but also on an extra parameter \(\mu\). The scaling functions are bell-shaped and symmetric, which leads to linear phase filters, and the standard B-spline scaling functions can be viewed as a special case. The efficiency and applicability of the constructed filters are illustrated in numerical experiments focused on image compression. It is shown that due to level dependency and the additional parameter \(\mu\), the proposed filters give better results than the standard B-spline filters.
