Let \(X\) be a smooth projective variety, and \(H\) an ample invertible sheaf. Consider \(\alpha\) the class of a curve of \(H\)-degree equal to one. The coarse moduli scheme \(\overline{\mathcal M}_{0,2}(X,l\alpha)\) is parametrizing isomorphism classes of \(2\)-pointed, genus \(0\) stable maps \(f:C \to X\), such that \(f_*([C])=l\alpha\) (for details see Def. 2.6). The variety \(X\) is said rationally simple connected if for all \(l \geq 2\) there exists an irreducible component \(M_{l,2}\) of \(\overline{\mathcal M}_{0,2}(X,l\alpha)\) such that a general point of \(M_{l,2}\) parametrizes an immersed smooth curve with the property that the evaluation map \(ev_2([(C,p_1,p_2,f)])=(f(p_1),f(p_2))\), \(p_1\) and \(p_2\) the marked points, is dominant and its generic fiber is rationally connected. The main result in the paper under review (see Thm. 1.2) states that for a smooth weighted complex complete intersection \(X_{d_1,\dots,d_c}\) in the smooth locus of the weighted projective space \({\mathbb P}_{\mathbb C}(1,e_1,\dots,e_n)\), with \(d_1^2+\dots+d_c^2 \leq 1+e_1^2+\dots+e_n^2\), dimension at least \(3\) and not isomorphic to a linear space, if \(d_1+\dots+d_c \leq e_1+\dots+ e_n-2\) then \(X_{d_1,\dots,d_c}\) is rationally simply connected. This fact has several applications when the weighted complete intersection is defined over the function field of a smooth curve (see Cor. 1.3): \(X_{d_1,\dots,d_c}\) satisfies weak approximation at all places, \(R\)-equivalence of rational points is trivial (see the precise definitions in in 2.1), and the Chow group of zero cycles of degree zero is zero.
