Let \(\chi\) be an irreducible complex character of a finite group \(G\). If \(\chi\) is induced from a primitive character \(\xi\) of some subgroup \(H\) of \(G\), then the pair \((H, \xi)\) is called a primitive inducing pair for \(\chi\). In the paper under review, the authors investigate the general question that to what extent \(\chi\) uniquely determines \((H, \xi)\). They define equivalence between two primitive inducing pairs and prove under certain conditions that all pairs \((H, \xi)\) with \(H \le G\) and \(\xi \in \mathrm{Irr}(H)\) are equivalent. As an application of this result, they prove that under the same conditions, all primitive characters inducing \(\chi\) from subgroups of \(G\) have equal degrees.
