The authors establish and analyze a family of quadratic FVE (Finite Volume Element) schemes for anisotropic diffusion problems on triangular meshes. This work is an extension of the previous work [\textit{Y. Zhou} et al., Comput. Math. Appl. 79, No. 9, 2473--2491 (2020; Zbl 1437.65169)] which dealt with quadratic FVE schemes for elliptic equations. The existence and uniqueness are proved under an assumption on the mesh. Such assumption is a more intrinsic mathematical quantity, since it involves the anisotropic diffusion tensor and the mesh geometry. When the diffusion tensor reduces to an identity matrix, this assumption is similar to that of the stated work. Under a stronger assumption, the coercivity result is obtained. Some existing coercivity results are then improved. The coercivity result in this article contributes to the error analysis of some of previous works. An error estimate is proved to be optimal in \(H^1\)-norm. Some numerical tests are presented to confirm the theoretical results.
