Given a sequence \(M=(M_{p})\) of positive numbers we define \(m=(m_{p})\) by \(m_{p}:=M_{p}/p!\) and \(\mu_{p}=M_{p}/M_{p-1}\) with \(\mu_{0}=1\). \(M\) is normalized if \(1=M_{0}\leq M_{1}\) and \(M\) is log-convex if \(M_{p}^{2}\leq M_{p-1}M_{p+1}\). If \(m\) is log-convex then \(M\) is called strongly convex. The class \(LC\) is the class of normalized, log-convex sequences with \(\mu_{p}\uparrow \infty\). \(M\) has moderate growth (mg) if \(M_{p+q}\leq CM_{p}M_{q}\) for some \(C\geq 1\). Given \(M\), the associated function \(w_{M}\) is defined by \(w_{M}(0)=0\) and \(w_{M}(t)=\sup_{p}\log (t^{p}/M_{p})\) for \(t>0\). For convenience, let \(A(p)=(M_{p})^{1/p}\). For \(M\in LC\), lemma 2.1 shows that \(M\) has mg iff \(\mu_{2p}=O(\mu_{p})\). In Theorem 3.1, the author shows that for \(M\in LC\), we have \(w_{M}(2t)=O(w_{M}(t))\) iff \(\liminf_{p\rightarrow \infty}A(Lp)/A(p)>1\) for some \(L\). If \(M\) has mg, then these statements hold iff \(\liminf_{p\rightarrow \infty }\mu_{\lambda p}/\mu_{p}>1\) for some integer \(\lambda\). In Theorem 4.5, the author characterizes the sequences \(M\in LC\) for which \(w_{M}\) satisfies \(w_{M}(\lambda t)\leq c\lambda w_{M}(t)+d\lambda\). In Theorem 4.7 a characterization of sequences \(M\in LC\) that have mg follows. One such characterization is that \(\liminf_{p\rightarrow \infty }\mu_{\lambda p}/\lambda \mu_{p}>0\).
