This article concerns the possible blowup of Leray weak solutions to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations. In particular, if a subcritical Lebesgue norm blows up at a finite time and at a scaling-critical rate (so, the blowup is of type 1), then a logarithmic constraint on the blowup of \(\|u\|_{L^3(\mathbb R^3)}\) can be derived. In comparison to Tao's upper bound on the rate of divergence of \(\|u\|_{L^3}\) [\textit{T. Tao}, ``Quantitative bounds for critically bounded solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. Nine mathematical challenges -- an elucidation'', Proc. Sympos. Pure Math. 104, 149--193 (2021)], this implies that, under a type-1 condition, there is only a narrow range within which the \(L^3\) norm blows up. The proof makes use of time-derivative estimates on higher \(L^p\) norms and a novel treatment of the pressure pioneered in [\textit{C. V. Tran} et al., J. Fluid Mech. 911, Paper No. A18, 18 p. (2021; Zbl 1461.76107)].
