A new regularity criterion for the weak solution to the Cauchy problem of the Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The velocity \(u\) and the pressure \(p\) satisfy to the equations \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}-\Delta u+(u\cdot\nabla)u+\nabla p=0,\quad \mbox{div}\,u=0,\quad (x,t)\in Q_T=\mathbb{R}^3\times(0,T) \] and to initial condition \(u(x,0)=u_0(x)\) with a smooth and rapidly decaying solenoidal vector \(u_0\). \par The authors obtain the following regularity criterion. Let \(u\) is a weak solution to the Cauchy problem and for each \(M >0\), there exists a small positive number \(\varepsilon\) such that \(u\) satisfies tw o conditions \[ \mbox{ess}\sup\limits_{0\leq t\leq T}\Vert u\Vert_{L^{3,w}(\mathbb{R}^3)}\leq M, \] for some \((x_0,t_0)\in Q_T\) and \( 0<r<\sqrt{t_0} \) \[ \frac{1}{r^3}m\left\{x\in B(x_0,r):|u(x,t_0)|>\frac{\varepsilon}{r}\right\}\leq\varepsilon, \] where \(L^{3,w}(\mathbb{R}^3)\) denotes the weak Lebesgue space, \(m(E)\) denotes the Lebesgue measure of the set \(E\). Under these conditions, \(u\) is bounded in the space-time cylinder \(B(x_0,\varepsilon r)\times(t_0-\varepsilon^2 r^2,t_0)\). On the base of this criterion, the authors show that the number of possible singular points at any singular time \(t\) is at most finite.
