Let \(X\) be a complex projective manifold endowed with an ample line bundle \(L \to X\). We call a subset \(Y \subset X\) \textit{a hypersurface of degree} \(k\) if it is the zero set of some section \(s:X \to L^{\otimes k}\) and, more generally, \textit{a complete intersection of dimension} \(d\) \textit{and degree} \(k\) if it is the zero set of a section \(s: X \to \mathbb{C}^{n-d} \otimes L^{\otimes k}\), i.e., the zero set of \(n-d\) sections as above. In this paper, the author gives some very interesting existence results for such hypersurfaces and complete intersections \(Y \subset X\), with various negativity conditions placed on the curvature of \(Y\) with an induced Hermitian metric from \(X\). From one of the results, a corollary follows immediately about the existence of compact simply connected Kähler manifolds with negative holomorphic bisectional curvature, thus answering in the negative a question posed by \textit{S.-T. Yau} [Seminar on differential geometry. Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ (1982; Zbl 0471.00020)]. The author then goes on to give existence results for complete intersections with Griffiths-positive exterior powers of cotangent and normal bundles, as well as an existence result for hyperbolic submanifolds whose metric satisfies quantitative bounds.
