In this interesting paper, the author continues earlier work [\textit{A. Mal} and \textit{K. Paul}, J. Oper. Theory 85, No. 2, 463--474 (2021; Zbl 07606470); \textit{A. Mal} et al., Monatsh. Math. 197, No. 4, 717--731 (2022; Zbl 07527787)]. The author considers Banach spaces \(X\) where on the space of operators \({\mathcal L}(X)\), the numerical radius is a norm. Building on the earlier work, when \(X\) is a finite-dimensional Hilbert space and \(V\) is a space of operators, the author gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a non-zero operator to be Birkhoff-James orthogonal in this norm to \(V\). An interesting link to the reviewer's results from [\textit{T. S. S. R. K. Rao}, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 42, No. 10, 1201--1208 (2021; Zbl 07431317)] is obtained by showing in the finite-dimensional smooth space case that some additional conditions lead to an operator \(T\) which is smooth in this norm, and in this new orthogonality orthogonal to the space of operators \({\mathcal L}(X,Z)\). $T$ will have a vector where \(T(x_0)\) is Birkhoff-James orthogonal to \(Z\). As is to be expected from [loc. cit.], this requires an analysis of the extremal structure of the dual unit ball of the space of operators, in the numerical radius norm, which has been very successfully carried out (Theorem~2.3).
