The authors study the existence of Silnikov type orbits in the coupled Duffing system of the form \[ \begin{aligned} \ddot x_1+g_1(x_1,x_2)+\varepsilon f_1(x_1,\dot x_1,x_2)&=0,\\ \ddot x_2+\varepsilon g_2(x_1,x_2)+\varepsilon \dot x_2 f_2(x_1,x_2)&=0, \end{aligned} \tag{1} \] where \(\varepsilon >0\) is a small parameter. Under some conditions, the existence of Silnikov type orbit is shown using Melnikov's method and geometrical singular perturbation theory. The obtained results are demonstrated by studying a special Duffing system of the form (1). Results on numerical simulations of this special system are presented.
