This paper has been written not only for the purpose of proving the theorems in the best possible forms but also with the following intention: to highlight some principles, one of which concerns the idea of attaching an invariant to the class of \(|\chi^ 2|\) and not to \(\chi\), and others \dots (from the author's introduction). Here the reviewer takes up one point. Let \(f,g\) be Hilbert modular forms of weights \(k=(k_ 1,\dots,k_ n)\) and \(\ell=(\ell_ 1,\dots,\ell_ n)\), respectively, for a totally real algebraic number field \(F\) of degree \(n\). Assume \(f\) is a cusp Hecke eigenform and \(k_ i\geq\ell_ i\) for every \(i\). Denote by \(D(s;f,g)\) the Dirichlet series attached to \(f,g\). When both \(k\) and \(\ell\) are integral, there exists an invariant \(I(f)\) such that \[ (D(m/2,f,g)/I(f))^ \sigma=D(m/2,f^ \sigma,g^ \sigma)/I(f^ \sigma)\tag\# \] for certain integer \(m\) and every \(\sigma\in\Aut(\mathbb{C})\). This has been proved in a previous paper of the author. There, the following condition was imposed: (*) \(k_ i\pmod 2\) is independent of \(i\). In this paper, the author removes (*) by introducing a new point of view. Namely, for an eigenform \(f\), there exists a certain primitive system \(\chi\) of Hecke eigenvalues on \(GL_ 2(F)\). The author proves that \(f^ \sigma\) is always an eigenform on \(SL_ 2(F)\), which determines \(|\chi'{}^ 2|\) with a certain system \(\chi'\) such that \(|\chi'{}^ 2|=|\chi^ 2|^ \sigma\). Note that without (*), \(\chi^ \sigma\) may be meaningless. Then \(I(f)\) may be written as \(I(|\chi^ 2|)\) and the reformulation of \((\#)\) is given in Theorem 11.3.
