In this remarkable article the notion of minimality for an equivariant spectral triple is explained and it is shown that the triple for the quantum SU(2) group constructed by the authors in [[1]: K-Theory 28, No. 2, 107--126 (2003; Zbl 1028.58005)] is minimal. The authors derive a decomposition of the spectral triple constructed in [[2]: \textit{L. Dabrowski, G. Landi, A. Sitarz, W. van Suijlekom} and \textit{J. C. Varilly}, Commun. Math. Phys. 259, No. 3, 729--759 (2005; Zbl 1090.58504)] in terms of the minimal triple constructed in [1]. The article starts with a short overview over recent progress in the interaction between non-commutative geometry and quantum groups. Then the notion of equivariant spectral triples and minimality is explained. A characterization for the irreducibility of a covariant representation an equivariant spectral triple is derived. Finally, the main result, the decomposition of the spectral triple constructed in [2] into minimal ones, is shown.
