Consider the boundary value problem \[ \begin{gathered} -u_t+\varepsilon^2 u_{xx}= g(u,v,x,\varepsilon),\;-v_t+ v_{xx}= f(u,v,x,\varepsilon),\;0< x< 1,\;t> 0,\\ u_x(0,t,\varepsilon)= u_x(1,t,\varepsilon)= 0,\;v(0,t,\varepsilon)= v^0,\;v(1,t,\varepsilon)= v^1,\end{gathered}\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(u\) and \(v\) are scalar functions, \(\varepsilon\) is a small positive number, \(f\) and \(g\) are sufficiently smooth functions. The distinguished assumption consists in the fact that the equation \[ g(u,v,x,0)= 0 \] has two solutions \(u= \varphi_1(v,x)\) and \(u= \varphi_2(v,x)\) intersecting along some curve. The author studies first the corresponding stationary problem. Using the method of lower and upper solutions, he establishes the existence of a solution and describes its asymptotical expansion in \(\varepsilon\). In the second part, the author derives conditions under which this solution is Lyapunov asymptotically stable as a solution of \((*)\).
