In this paper the authors study several questions on the geometry of hypersurfaces, \(X\), in projective \(n\)-space, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, with singular locus of codimension large compared to its degree, \(d\). A general hypersurface with dimension much larger than its degree \(d\) is unirational. \textit{K. Paranjape} and \textit{V. Srinivas} [Astérisque 211, 241-254 (1992; Zbl 0807.14039)] gave a proof of the unirationality of general complete intersections of low degree. In the present paper the authors show that there exists an integer \(N=N(d)\) such that for all \(n\) larger than or equal to \(N\) any smooth hypersurface in projective \(n\)-space of degree \(d\) is unirational. They consider Fano varieties parametrizing \(\dim k\) linear subspaces on a smooth hypersurface \(X\) of degree \(d\) in projective \(n\)-space, more specifically they study the dimension of the Fano variety in the case where \(n\) is sufficiently large compared to \(d\) and \(k\). Furthermore, they consider linear series of hypersurfaces of degree \(d\) in projective \(n\)-space with \(n\gg d\), as well as the question of maximal variation of \(k\)-plane sections on hypersurfaces.
