Let \(\theta\) be a real number such that \(1<\theta<\pi\) and \(\cos\theta=s/r\) where \(r,s\in\mathbb Z,0\leq |s|<r\) and \((s,q)=1\). Let \(n\) be a \(\theta\)-congruent number, in other words, \(n\) is a positive integer such that \(n\sqrt{r^2-s^2}\) is the area of a triangle with rational sides. Let \(E_{n,\theta}\) be the elliptic curve defined by the equation: \(y^2=x^3+2snx^2-(r^2-s^2)n^2x\), and \(r_\theta(n)\) be the \(\mathbb Q\)-rank of \(E_{n,\theta}\). It is known that for a square free integer \(n\neq 1,2,3,6\), \(n\) is a \(\theta\)-congruent number if and only if \(r_\theta(n)>0\). In the cases that \(\theta=\pi/3\) and \(2\pi/3\), the authors find families of congruent numbers \(n\) with \(r_\theta(n)\leq 4\) by applying results given in [\textit{J.-F. Mestre}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I, Math. 327, No. 8, 763--764 (1998; Zbl 0920.11036)] and [\textit{K. Rubin} and \textit{A. Silverberg}, Exp. Math. 10, No. 4, 559--569 (2001; Zbl 1035.11025)]. Further, they find by direct search examples of \(n\) such that \(r_\theta(n)=5,6\) and \(7\). In their search, they use a result in [\textit{M. Kan}, Acta Arith. 94, No. 2, 153--160 (2000; Zbl 0970.11020)] which chracterizes \(\theta\)-congruent numbers and Mestre-Nagao sums to find \(E_{n,\theta}\) with large \(r_\theta(n)\).
