Let \(B_D\) be the Bergman orthogonal projection of \(L_2 (D)\) onto \(A_2 (D)\)where \(D\subset C\) be the unit disk and let \(T_a\varphi=B_D(a\varphi), \varphi \in A_2 (D)\) be the Toeplitz operator with symbol \(a(z), z\in D\). The authors study the influence of the radial component of a symbol to spectral, compactness and Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators acting in Bergman spaces. They study also essential spectra and semicommutators \([T_a, T_b)=T_a T_b-T_{ab}\) which are not compact in general.
