    The authors consider the control problem for the telegraph equation on a segment with a potential. Namely \[ \left\{\begin{align*}{ &\partial^2_t u(x,t)-\partial^2_x u(x,t)-q(x,t)u(x,t)=0,\;\; (x,t)\in [0,L]\times [0,T], \cr &u(x,0)=\varphi(x),\;\; \partial_tu(x,0)=\psi(x) ,\;\; x\in [0,L], \cr &u(x,T)=\varphi_1(x),\;\; \partial_tu(x,T)=\psi_1(x) , \;\; x\in [0,L], \cr &u(0,t)=\mu(t), \;\;t\in [0,T],}\end{align*} \right. \] where \(\mu\) is the control. The authors give some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions of this control problem in the case \(T=2L\). These results generalize some previous ones [\textit{P. A. Revo} and \textit{G. D. Chabakauri}, Differ. Equ. 37, No. 8, 1133--1147 (2001; Zbl 0999.93029)] in the case \(q\equiv0\).
