Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed base field; let \(X\) be a reduced, pure dimensional, non degenerate subscheme of \(\mathbb{P}^ n\); let \(I(X)\) be its homogeneous ideal and \(A:=k[x_ 0,\ldots,x_ n]/I(X)\); if \(\dim(X)\geq 1\) assume that \(X\) is connected in codimension 1; assume \(\deg(X)=\text{codim}(X)+2\). Here three main theorems are proven. The first theorem gives a characterization of all possible \(A\). The second one provides the structure of local cohomology and in certain cases also the structure of the singularities of \(X\). The third one is for the case \(\dim(X)=0\); it describes the structure of \(A\) (giving its minimal free resolution and proving e.g. that \(n+1\) of the points of \(X\) are in a hyperplane if and only if \(A\) is not Gorenstein).
