The paper deals with a generalized form of fuzzy number, called fuzzy quantity. The addition operation defined over such quantities, and the additive equivalence related to that operation can be used to distinguish among three types of uncertainty being present in a fuzzy number. The one connected with the elementary existence of the quantity, its symmetric component representing fuzzy zero, and its proper (non-symmetric) specifically structured fuzziness.
