In the paper under review the authors study the following containment problem. Problem. Determine all pairs of positive integers \((m,r)\) such that the containment \[ I^{(m)}\subset I^{r} \] holds for all homogeneous ideal \(I \subset \mathbb{K}[x_{0},\dots, x_{n}]\) in the ring of polynomials over a given field \(\mathbb{K}\). Here the authors focus on a more concrete question due to Huneke, namely is it true that \(I^{(3)} \subset I^{2}\) holds for all ideals defining finite sets of points in \(\mathbb{P}^{2}_{\mathbb{K}}\)? The main results of the paper under review can be formulated as follows. Theorem A. There exists a simplicial arrangement of \(31\) lines which intersect in total along \(127\) points such that for the radical ideal \(I\) of these \(127\) points one has \[ I^{(3)} \not \subset I^{2}. \] Moreover, there is an element \(f\) of degree \(33\) in \(I^{(3)}\) which is not contained in \(I^{2}\) and which is the product of the defining equation of a certain arrangement of \(21\) lines and an irreducible curve of degree \(12\). Moreover, there exists an arrangement of \(31\) lines and \(127\) points having the same weak combinatorics, but the containment \(I^{(3)} \subset I^{2}\) does hold. Theorem B. There exists an arrangement of \(21\) lines which intersect in total along \(115\) points such that for the radical ideal of these \(115\) points there is \[ I^{(3)} \not \subset I^{2}. \] Moreover, there is an element \(f\) of degree \(31\) in \(I^{(3)}\) which is not contained in \(I^{2}\) and which is a product of all the lines and an irreducible curve of degree \(10\).
