Cotorsion pairs are important tools in the study of tilting modules, [\textit{R. Göbel} and \textit{J. Trlifaj}, Approximations and endomorphism algebras of modules. Berlin: Walter de Gruyter (2006; Zbl 1121.16002)]. In the last ten years the theory of \(\tau\)-tilting modules was developed by many authors, and it was proved that this extension of tilting theory is very useful. A major difference between these two theory is that \(\tau\)-tilting modules do not induce (or, are not induced by) a cotorsion pair. In the present paper the authors prove that a natural modification of the conditions that define cotorsion pairs can be used to provide an useful tool (weak cotorsion pair) for the theory of \(\tau\)-tilting modules.
