In hierarchical clustering, one often has two parameters one would like to vary: both a density and a scale. Upon linearizing by taking 0-dimensional homology, one obtains a 2-parameter persistence module. This persistence module is unique because the maps in any particular direction are either all injective, or alternatively, all surjective. This paper studies the classification types of these persistence modules using cotorsion torsion triples.
