The authors study the time-dependent stability of nonautonomous sequential dynamical systems generated by sequences \(\{f_n\}\), where each \(f_n\) is an Anosov diffeomorphism and \(f_n\to f\) as \(n\to\infty\) in the \(C^1\) topology. The case of expanding maps \(f_n\) is also considered. They prove that if \(f\) is an Anosov diffeomorphism and the values \(\|f-f_n\|_{C^1}\) are small enough, then \(f^n\) and \(f_{n-1}\circ\dots\circ f_1\circ f_0\) are almost conjugate by a convergent sequence of homeomorphisms. This allows them to establish a kind of ergodic stability, meaning that the behavior of the Birkhoff averages for continuous observables is similar to that observed by convergent sequences of nearby dynamics. Since the authors get quantitative results concerning the convergence of the conjugating homeomorphisms to the identity, it is possible to transfer limit theorems (such as the central limit theorem, the functional central limit theorem, and the law of the iterated logarithm) from Brownian motion to time-series generated by observation of sequential dynamical systems.
