The paper under review concerns proving when a given finitely presented group is hyperbolic and to this extent, further develops the use of curvature distribution described by the first and the second author in [J. Group Theory 26, No. 4, 645--663 (2023; Zbl 1523.20075)]. Given a finite presentation for a group \(G\) which can also be realised as a relative presentation, the authors give conditions on the relative presentation which, if satisfied, proves \(G\) hyperbolic. Using a curvature distribution method, they deduce that some generalised Fibonacci groups \(F(r,n)\) are hyperbolic. In particular, they prove the following Main Theorem: Let \(n \geq 7\), \(r \geq 3\). If \(r \not \equiv n-1 \mod n\), \(r \not \equiv n/2-1 \mod n\) and \((n, r \mod n) \not \in \{(7,5),(7,3),(8,5),(8,4),(10,5),(12,6) \}\), then \(F(n,r)\) is hyperbolic. If \(r \equiv n-1 \mod n\), then \(F(n,r)\) is not hyperbolic.
