In this paper the authors investigate the existence and multiplicity of solutions for a quasilinear elliptic problem of the following form \(-\Delta_\Phi u=|u|^{l^*-2}u+f \quad \text{in}\ \Omega; \ u=0 \quad \text{on}\ \partial\Omega\), where \(-\Delta_\Phi\) is the \(\Phi\)-Laplacian operator defined by the function \(\Phi\) with suitable conditions for the use of the framework of Orlicz- Sobolev spaces, \(l^*=\frac{lN}{N-l}\) with \(1<l<N\) is the critical index for the problem, \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^N\) is a bounded and smooth domain, \(f\geq \neq 0\) is in some Lebesgue space. The most well-known special case of the problem is \(-\Delta u=|u|^{2^*-2}u+f\ \text{in}\ \Omega; \ u=0 \quad \text{on}\ \partial\Omega\) which is started in a work of \textit{H. Brézis} and \textit{L. Nirenberg} [in: Symmetry in nature. 129--140 (1989; Zbl 0763.46023)]. By variational methods combining some arguments in [\textit{G. Tarantello}, Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Non Linéaire 9, No. 3, 281--304 (1992; Zbl 0785.35046)] and Lions's concentration compactness principle for the Orlicz-Sobolev framework, one or two nonnegative solutions (one is a ground solution) are obtained for the problem when \(f\) is small in some sense.
