    To prove the existence of uncountably many non-isomorphic complemented subspaces of the space \(L_p\) for \(1<p<\infty\), \(p \neq 2\), \textit{J. Bourgain} et al. [Ann. Math. (2) 114, 193--228 (1981; Zbl 0496.46010)] introduced an ordinal \(L_p\)-index \(h_p(X)\) for separable Banach spaces \(X\). The authors calculate the \(L_p\)-index with \(2<p<\infty\) for the best known complemented subspaces of \(L_p\). So, according to Propositions 2.5 and 2.6, \(h_p(\ell_p) = h_p(\ell_2) = \omega_0\). By Theorem~2.2, \(h_p(R_p^{\omega_0}) = \omega_0 \cdot 2\). One of the main results (Theorem~2.7) asserts that, if \(X\) is an infinite-dimensional subspace of \(L_p\) with \(2< p < \infty\), then either \(h_p(X) = \omega_0\), \(h_p(X) = \omega_0 \cdot 2\), or \(h_p(X) \geq \omega_0^2\).
